The Intelligence Ombudsman helped organise a meeting on intelligence oversight

An international meeting on intelligence oversight, held in Helsinki on 7–8 September 2026, brought together intelligence oversight authorities and parliamentary overseers from the Nordic and Baltic countries. The event was organised by the Parliament’s Intelligence Oversight Committee. The Intelligence Ombudsman and his staff participated in the preparation of the meeting and the implementation of the programme in cooperation with the Intelligence Oversight Committee.

During the two-day meeting, topics discussed included the legal framework for intelligence activities, the practical implementation of intelligence oversight, and the impact of the changing security environment on the work of intelligence agencies. The event also featured expert presentations and panel discussions on current issues relating to intelligence, security policy and oversight.

The meeting was attended by representatives from all the Nordic and Baltic countries. A delegation from Ukraine was also present in an observer capacity.
